4 days til Christmas!!!
I can not believe time went so fast. It feels like yesterday it was October. Now that the holidays are getting closer, I have been baking and preparing for Christmas and New Years.
Today I have another recipe for you: Colombian Natilla. The classic holiday recipe that is made by Colombians wherever they may be.
Natilla Colombiana with buñuelos |
This recipe was the one that was given to me by my mother, so the ingredient portions may vary.
Colombian Natilla Recipe
Ingredients:
- 9 cups of milk (1.33 L, one milk bag)
- 3-a cinnamon sticks
- Sticks of cloves
- 2 cups of cornstarch
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- 1 can of condensed milk.
The recipe
- Add the 9 cups of milk, cinnamon, and cloves together in a pot. Turn on the stove medium-high. Mix, bring to a boil.
- In a mixing bowl mix together the cornstarch and the rest of the milk. Add to the pot when it starts to boil, mix. Take out the cinnamon/cloves if wished.
- Add the butter, sugar and condensed milk. Mix well, lower temperature to low-medium. Stir it with a wooden spoon. Stirring, so it doesn’t stick to the pot, until it thickens, about 5-8minutes.
- After it thickens pour it into the 9×13 inch baking dish. Let it cool until firm. Refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
- Cut, serve and enjoy.
Note: I updated it to 1 1/2C sugar for it was too sweet. You could add less if wished, or more depending on your taste buds.
*Tip* Before pouring mixture into the dish, rinse the dish but do not dry it so the natilla won’t stick to the dish.
- You can pour it into individual size bowls if wished.
- Raisins or shredded coconut can be added for a better taste/look. 1/2C if desired
*Bonus tip* Refrain from taking a spoon and eating the mixture when ready to pour into the dish. 😄
I really hope you enjoy this recipe and grow to love it like we do in our household. It is easy, but the hardest part is the stirring.
