Last month I was chosen to partake of the Date Night Essentials Vox Box from Influenster. This campaign is focused on getting ready for one’s date night. It included multiple products that I had the opportunity to try out and I decided to write a review post on them.
If you remember, back in January I did a similar post on an Influenster Vox Box. The Let It Glow box was focused on taking care of the skin in the cold winter months. So this post will be like that one.
Date Night Essentials Vox Box
*I received this box for free for testing purposes in exchange for an honest review. This does not alter my opinions or thoughts in any way.* In this post, there are also affiliated links which help support this blog at no additional cost to you*
The whole concept (if you didn’t already guess) was that this box was filled with items that would be essential in getting ready for a date night. The items in this vox box were great and I loved having the opportunity to try them out. I found it lovely how it included makeup remover and toner/moisturizer because those things are often overlooked when getting ready for a date.

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover
This product honestly surprised me. The Clinique * Take The Day Off Remover for Lids, Lashes, and Lips does exactly what it says and more.
I used it at the end of the day to remove my makeup and wow! It is so gentle on the skin and I loved how it did not leave my skin feeling dry or harsh afterward.
With this product, I found that a little goes a long way. I was able to remove my lipstick and mascara without having to scrub at my skin to remove it. It is somewhat oily, which is what makes it is so easy to remove (i guess?). Since it is oil-like it leaves the skin well hydrated and does not feel harsh on the skin. I was also surprised to noticed that when I tried it on my eyelids I did not experience any stinging or irritation which usually happens with other makeup removers.
The only issue I have is that it does leave the skin oily afterward, which is good (hydration) but I’m not a big fan of the feeling of having an oily face. This product has become a must-have for me.
Overall, I loved this product and would consider it a great investment because it removes every speck of makeup without being harsh, super-efficient and a time saver.
Perfect for taking off your work makeup so you can get ready for your date!
I give it a 4.5/5 stars.
Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer
Like mentioned with the makeup remover, a little goes a long way. This Korean-made product was a really interesting addition to the box. It is so easy to forget that getting ready for date night not only involves makeup but skincare too.
This two-in-one is easy to apply and does not dry out the skin unlike other toners but instead, it does what it says, which is to moisturize and soften the skin. To be honest I did not see much change when I used this product, besides momentarily hydrating the skin, possibly because it was geared towards people with dry or normal skin (mines oily)
As soon as I applied it I noticed that my skin was super soft. This might be inconsequential, but the shape of the bottle is so cute and the liquid of the product is milky white, which made me think of a milk bottle for some reason. I’ve heard great things about this brand but unfortunately, this product was not for me, I’ll probably try another of their products in the future geared towards oily-skinned people like moi.
Do I recommend it? Not sure, just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
3/5 stars

Bourjois Twist Up the Volume Mascara 24HR
This is an elusive, french brand that is near to impossible to find. It is not sold at Sephora or any other makeup store so I had not been able to try the brand out until today (well last month really).
This mascara is quite interesting and different from others. Why? Well because of the top, it can be twisted in two directions to get two different eyelash possibilities, either length or volume. I found that it looks better when I tried one setting at a time instead of doing one coat of length and one of volume, as it left my lashes, looking stubby and off.
The mascara did last the whole day like it says. At the end of the day, I was surprised to find that my lashes still looked the same as they had that morning. The formula is great and loved the concept of it.
My only issue was that when I put the two settings, my lashes didn’t look as good as promised.
Other than that I really like this mascara and it is fun to twist up the wand. The formula is long-lasting and both settings look great separately.
4/5 stars.
Can be bought at Shopper’s Drug Mart in Canada or at the Bourjois site online. It is unfortunately not sold in many stores which is a bummer since it’s a really interesting brand.
OGX Refresh + Revitalize Dry Shampoo
OGX is a well-known brand and although I had seen it in stores I had never tried any of their products before. Thankfully I had the opportunity to try their dry shampoo.
This happened to be my first time using dry shampoo and was pleasantly surprised by the smell, the scent was so nice and clean like a spring morning.
It left my hair feeling less oily and stringy, I found it perfect for day 3/4 hair or for those days where you’re running late to an important event (or even an unexpected date).
Can be bought at Ulta* for $4.99
My rating 4/5 stars. Do I recommend it? Yes!
Final Thoughts
The products given to me are perfect for getting ready for a date, they focus on both beauty and skincare. Although, It would’ve been better had a lipstick been added to it. As for them being essentials, I would definitely say that the makeup remover and the mascara are a must-have, the other two not so much.
And those are all the products I got the opportunity to try. I truly enjoyed not only trying them out but also writing down my reviews of them and posting it on Plaid + Sugar.
The main reason I do product reviews is that I love to share products I love with others and I hope you enjoy them.
Do you think any of these products would be useful for preparing for a date? Have you tried any of these before? What is your must-have date night product?

Sounds like some good products! It can be hard to get products that work like one likes. I mostly do Mary Kay make up. I have never tried dry shampoo. I might have to try it out.

It is hard to find something you love, but sometimes one has to take the plunge and try it out. Dry shampoo is defiantly a lifesaver if short on time.
Thanks for visiting, Rakayle!

The Laneige two in one is a nice product but since I had oily skin it did not do as well as it should've.
