With Thanksgiving arriving soon why not make a warm delicious pie! One that reminds the eater of one of Canada’s main motifs. Yes, I’m talking about a sugar pie made with maple syrup!
Today I’ll be sharing with you one of my favorite pie recipes I’ve ever made (besides a classic pumpkin pie). This Canadian maple syrup is super easy to make and goes perfect with ice cream or fresh whipped cream. It’s firm, sweet, and oh so delicious that everyone will be asking for seconds!
I mentioned earlier this year (Cabane A Sucre at Home post) that there are multiple dishes, both savory and sweet, that use maple syrup as a key ingredient and that one of my favorite recipes that I had made was the sugar pie with maple syrup which unfortunately I wasn’t able to take a pic of then.
However, after making it a couple more times and learning how to make it sweet without being too saccharine and making it less liquid-y I thought I’d share it with you!
Maple Syrup Sugar Pie | Classic Easy Recipe
You might notice that I’m only sharing the filling for the maple syrup sugar pie and that’s because when it comes to making crust I prefer to opt-out!
I’ve tried time and time again to make pie crust and although I always follow the recipe to a T it either comes out a) too flaky, b) too thick, or un-malleable.
And while I do end up using the imperfect crusts (no unnecessary food wasting in this house!) it is easier and less stressful to just buy the dough or pre-made crust at the store.
So you have a favorite no-fail pie crust recipe please let me know! I’d love to try a pie crust recipe that’s delicious, crumbly (but not too much so), and lightweight.
Anywho, enough talk about the crust. Let’s get started!
As I mentioned in my Cabane a Sucre post, mid-February to mid-April is the best time to buy maple syrup as it is maple syrup season. There is an abundance of maple-flavored foods everywhere you look and every single grocery store has a large variety of maple syrups.
However, in late summer and early fall stores are starting to get rid of their inventory and the maple syrup goes back on sale! Earlier this month I saw some as low as $4.50 for a can of 100% Canadian Maple Syrup (compared to $7-9) so this is the perfect time to buy and stock up. Plus you can use the extra maple syrup on pancakes and waffles (sooo good!).
Ingredients:
- 3 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 cup Canadian Maple Syrup
- 2 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup golden sugar
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest (green part)
Instructions:
- Pre-heat oven to 350℉ (180℃) and place the crust (either pre-made or from the store) on a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
- In a large bowl mix the eggs, maple syrup, and butter together then add the two sugars and the lemon juice. Mix well.
- Slowly mix in the flour, vanilla, and lemon zest, and then combine it well until the batter/filling is all smooth.
- Pour into the prepared pie crust and bake for around 40 minutes or until the sides are firm and the center somewhat jiggly (like custard).
- Let cool for a couple of minutes and serve with whipping cream or ice cream.
- Now it’s ready to enjoy!
Wasn’t making the maple syrup sugar pie quite easy? It is essentially adding all ingredients to the bowl and mixing!
This has to be one of my favorite pie recipes to date because it is so easy! Plus I love sugary desserts (what can I say? I’m addicted to sugar!) and this one is just *chef’s kiss*. Although if you’re trying to cut back on sugar, I’d recommend decreasing the amount of brown sugar or maple syrup.
With Thanksgiving coming soon, this maple syrup sugar pie will be ideal for dessert. It is also perfect for Christmas, winter holidays, or for the maple sugar lover in your life!
Have you ever baked, or cooked, with maple syrup before? Do you love pies or are you a cake person?
If you made this recipe and loved it please let me know. I love getting feedback and responses from my readers!
Also, Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!
Hope y’all have a great week

This looks delicious! I’m the exact same with pastry – we buy frozen pre-rolled pastry sheets and they work a treat 🙂 x

Wow! This looks delish! Definitely would want whip cream or ice cream to tone down the sweetness! I don’t bake with maple syrup often and I enjoy both cake and pie equally! Thanks for sharing!

This looks delicious, easy and cheap to make and much nicer than pumpkin pie. Bought pie crusts ate the best, homemade are a faff.

Oh yummy!!!!!! I’ve tasted this sugar pie long time ago when I visited Vancouver in 1995. I was only 9 years old back then. But I still remember how it tasted. It was delicious.
