These last couple of months have certainly been strange and unexpected, and life has not been the same since the virus broke out and we’ve been pushed in. Time has been really strange lately, we have lots of “free” time but it also feels like time does not exist anymore as all the days no mix into each other.
But one of the things that I have encountered is that is pretty easy to not do anything during this time, which is both good and bad.
The good being that there is more time to sleep in, do what you love, and there is less stress to get something done. The bad being that it is also too easy to just do nothing and let go of all the good habits, such as eating healthy, exercising, being productive, and instead just mindlessly scrolling on your phone while binge-watching a series and eating cake all day. After talking to a couple of friends, I know that I’m not the only one being caught guilty of this.
Like a lot of things in life, everything should be taken in moderation. There are many people who have the need to feel productive in a day (I’m one of those) and say that they used their time wisely.
Of course, there will be days where I want to sit on my couch and watch a whole season of the X-Files in one day but I also want days where I feel like I accomplished something.
Without further ado, here are some tips and ways to staying physically healthy and happy during this quarantine period. If you are looking for how to stay mentally healthy then I recommend this post.

5 Ways to Stay Physically Healthy and Happy at Home
Get Enough Sleep
Get Moving!
There are so many workout apps (both free and paid), youtube videos, and books that ways of exercising at home are infinite.
Want to get into muscle building or general exercise?
- Then I recommend HAS Fit, they have free Youtube workouts for beginners and experienced, they also have some paid plans.
- PopSugar Fitness has countless free workouts that vary from 5 to 45 minutes. They have HIIT, beginner, advanced, and experience exercise plans that are super easy to follow.
- Shape Magazine also has free workout plans (some monthly) that are geared towards all types of exercise.
Don’t Forget Self-Care
Like I mentioned in my “How To Stay Mentally Healthy In a Time of Crisis” post, self-care is extremely important to both your physical and mental health.
Anything you love or enjoy doing is self-care, there is no specific thing you have to do. What matters is that YOU love it and that it helps you feel better.
These are some posts from some of my favorite bloggers on ways to self-care:
- Vicky at Kabuki Rune has a fantastic list of self-care activities.
- Emily at That Weird Girl Life wrote a post on self-care tips that we should all be doing.
Drink Water
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drinking water can make a huge difference in your energy and skin and has many other great benefits.
When quarantine started and had just started doing finals I noticed that I would often forget to drink water throughout the day. My mind would feel foggy and limp, until one day I placed my water bottle on the ground next to my chair and found myself constantly re-hydrating.
Something so simple but took me a while to do.
There are some fantastic, out of the ordinary water bottles such as this 24 oz. bottle that has a time marker,* perfect for the person who forgets to drink water. But if you like a bigger one, this 30-ounce bottle * also comes with an hourly time marker. If you like to add taste to your water, then you’ll love this 32-ounce water bottle that comes with a removable infuser*.
Eat Clean and Healthy
This might be the most important of them all because to exercise and overall be healthy one needs to have a consistent amount of nutrients and vitamins which can only be gotten through eating healthy.
Eating clean usually consists of less processed foods such as chips or anything with lots of sugar and refined grains.
Less sugar in your dietary intake is also important as sugar does slow the body down and causes health issues (I know from experience), focusing on healthy sugars found in fruits and vegetables instead of cakes and candy.
For more clean eating tips, Eating Well magazine has an article with a list of tips to lead a healthier eating diet. Obviously, you can’t follow them all but you can start small and afterward begin noticing a difference in how you feel.
What do you think? Any other tip/way you would recommend?
And those are some tips on how to stay healthy during this pandemic. These last couple of months have not been easy but following these tips have helped me feel better about myself and have helped me (along with the how-to be mentally healthy tips) feel like I’m using this time to better my self.

Great tips, it's actually a pretty good time to try and work on things like drinking more water and doing some self care activities while we haven't got much else going on. I'm doing fairly well when it comes to eating and trying to get my workouts in but I could definitely improve my sleeping habits x

Oh indeed these are great tips. I practice a fair amount of them, and I have myself on a fairly strict weekly schedule which I stick too. I went to school for graphic design and it was a very strict program/school so I really learned how to be disciplined.

Thank you!!! I do understand that we need to kind to ourselves and not too demanding because this is challenging enough. However our health should be a priority right now, and there is a difference in being kind and being a victim. How is a moderate workout going to harm mental health? How is having some little discipline to go to sleep at the right time and drink water going to stress people? Thank you so much for sharing this!
