Hi, there!
I know that November passed and yet there were no posts and for that I’m sorry. Like I said in this post, school has been harder than expected and I’ve been having a hard time managing it all.
I thought it’d be cool to do a Christmas post of sorts and a fellow Canadian blogger did a tag post and so I’ve never done one so I wanted to try it out!
This past week I finished my first university semester! I have some papers and an exam to do but now I have the time to study and write some blog posts without having to worry about my schedule.
I’ve also been baking lots of cookies specifically Candy Cane Sugar Cookies, they’re just so good and the perfect Christmas cookie! I did a recipe post about this time last year which you can find here.
Now let the questions begin! I hope you enjoy this post and the little tidbits about both my life and culture.
Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Nowadays in our home, we tend to open a single present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day. There were years when we opened all our presents on Christmas Eve, well actually we would open it after midnight so it was really the 25th.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Our Christmas tree is fake. We’ve never have had a real one, though not from lack of wanting. I would like (one day) to get a tree that has the roots still so that after the holidays it can be replanted.
I know that trees smell great and they look beautiful inside the home, but the idea of cutting up a tree and then just tossing it out seems like such a waste, which is why I’d prefer a tree with roots.
You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?
Hmmm, that is a really hard question to answer! There is so much that could be wished but yet all seem so insignificant *sigh*. But I think I would wish to be able to visit my family in Colombia for the season and therefore enjoy Christmas in a warm 30℃ weather, while not having to worry about the cost. Is that too much to ask for? or did I push the limits?
Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Before we moved to Quebec we used to go to our church’s Christmas Eve program and a candlelight ceremony. My brother and I used to be part of the program (back in the day). Afterwards, we would have our Christmas supper with family and/or friends and stay up until midnight or much (much) later. Before going to bed we would open one Christmas present.
What sits on top of your tree?
A bow. I know that it is a strange answer as most will say either star or angel.
Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Uhh, yeah! Every. Single. Year. Last year, in fact, I wrote a post where I complained about the fact that it hadn’t snowed yet and it was November 25th, it finally snowed on the 10th of December!! For me, it was so strange for in Western Canada it snows in October (sometimes September!).
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I like to think that I can but I can’t. I was taught Chopsticks (Christmas version) and every time I get to the naming of the deer names get repeated and some forgotten *whoops*
Have you been naughty or nice this year? Be honest!
Honestly, I feel like I was pretty nice this year. 😉
Which do you enjoy more? Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Christmas Eve for sure! The anticipation, the joy and the excitement of the 25th are the best part of the season. In my culture, Christmas Eve is a bigger deal than the next day.
What do you eat for Christmas dinner?
We have the usual fare like turkey, mashed potatoes etc but we also add in our Colombian mix to things. We cook tamales ( rice with chicken, meat eggs and vegetables and more covered in plantain leaves) and mazato (a fermented non-alcoholic drink). For dessert, I usually make various things but the big staple of Colombian Christmas cuisine is natilla.
I wrote a recipe post on it here, last year.
Do you have an Advent Calendar each year?
Do you send out Christmas cards?
No, I have never. My family loves receiving cards as each of them is unique as the person who sent them. We’ve always thought about sending cards but unfortunately, now that we moved we don’t have that many people to send them to. One day, though!
Do you make any Christmas gifts?
Yes! Last year I knitted, sewed and quilted all of my family’s presents. This year because of school I am running behind on everything and so I *sigh* haven’t done anything yet. But then again making them takes so much longer than just buyng a present though the excitement of giving something homemade is better.
Well, that’s all for today and I hope you enjoyed reading my responses.
Below you will find a blank list of the questions for you to copy, paste, and share! Be sure to leave a link in the comments below so I can come read yours as well. Thank you to Kat from Cozy and Caffeinated for coming up with the Christmas Tag post. You can check her post here.

I also have the tradition in my home to open one present on Christmas Eve. Ohh and I've always wanted a white Christmas tree. One year I will buy one for sure!

Love the idea of a bow sitting on top of the tree! I also have the tradition of opening one present on Christmas eve (as Jasmine M mentioned!) and newly added tradition to my Christmas Eve is a Christmas related craft!
